How I loved this series when Eye of the World hit the stores. Strong female characters, plenty of fighting and magic, and a suitable dash of romantic tension. With that said, I felt that the female characters were ultimately reduced to stereotypes of “sassy,” “defiant” girls instead of being fleshed out into fully complex women. I gave up on this series when Jordan seemed to be dragging it out. After the third book in the series, I got to the point where I felt nothing was being accomplished in the subsequent individual books. Sadly, I turned in my Eye of the World fan card. Well, I'm still a fan of that first book.

You know a story has grown too large to handle when you end Winter's Heart with a major event you would love to hear more about, and this book covers the same time frame, only from different perspectives and you still don't get to see the real effect of the event that ended Winter's Heart. The one bonus is I can finally see light at the end of this very long tunnel. The story is starting to head back to a point instead of broadening even farther. I stay with it, because I want to see how it ends, not because the reading is all that exciting. Book 7 to 10 have been unweildy behemoths, but I can tell you a lot about smiles not reaching eyes, embroidery, facial expressions, tugging on garments, and non verbal communication.

Seriously, this is the book that showcases all of Jordan's flaws. The opposite end of Shadow Rising, Crown of Swords, and Knife of Dreams. This book was so slow in moving the plot forward that a good chunk of it actually managed what cannot be done with the power, and moved back in time to Winter's Heart. Nothing of any importance happens in this book. NOTHING. Oh, it is still an enjoyable read. I love Jordan's prose and characters and can read about them doing absolutely nothing and still enjoy it. Still, that doesn't mean I don't want anything to happen. The only thing that happens in this book is that some proposals are made. By Rand, Aes Sedai, and Perrin. Thats pretty much it. Couldn't all of these have been taken care of in a few chapters in Winter's Heart or Knife of Dreams? Yes! Yes, they could have been! Yet Jordan saw fit to write a whole book around them. Seriously, you can skip this book and head on to KoD. The only book I recommend skipping, unless you are a Mat fan like me, and found enjoyment in his parts. Where I shall mention of course, NOTHING happened.

Well this one was a struggle, to many new characters, did they add to the story?.
I don't think so, the only parts I really got into was when one of the main characters, Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, Elayne and Nynaeve are involved.

I can't help feeling that the whole saga could have been written in around 6 books.

I will read book 11 in the hope that the Jordan family manage to complete the final book from Roberts notes and draft's, it very sad that he died before completing the final book.

It could have been better. He wasted too much time on unnecessary plot details.

Good fantasy read, but Jordan drags out the story unnecessarily, and rambles from occasionally. Unfortunately, once you start a series it is kind of hard to stop.
