Each book of this series gets better. There are so many things I loved about this book. It's great to have a book that can shock me. I tend to see things coming from a mile away. I still love Nynaeve! Every book she just gets more bass a** in it! So far reading from Rands point of view isn't very interesting but I'm guessing he'll get better everyone else seems to be getting better. Definitely a favorite series for me!

How I loved this series when Eye of the World hit the stores. Strong female characters, plenty of fighting and magic, and a suitable dash of romantic tension. With that said, I felt that the female characters were ultimately reduced to stereotypes of “sassy,” “defiant” girls instead of being fleshed out into fully complex women. I gave up on this series when Jordan seemed to be dragging it out. After the third book in the series, I got to the point where I felt nothing was being accomplished in the subsequent individual books. Sadly, I turned in my Eye of the World fan card. Well, I'm still a fan of that first book.

I was thrilled with the first 200 pages of this book--little pockets of evil jumping out of the pattern and attacking our heroes; Rand defiantly thrusting the sword-that-is-not into the floor of The Stone; the first open mention of sex thus far in the series with nearly nude and propositioning Berelain, Elayne and Rand kissing in dark corners, and Lan acting as tortured and overwraught as a teenager. But in the next 200 pages (and the 200 after that), the story became bogged down. Specifically, I had trouble keeping interest in Rand's trek through the Aiel Waste which was less epic and more anthropological study. While I appreciate Jordan's attention to detail in creating a people and their society, I felt as though I did not need to know everything about their family and class dynamics. Once again, where Jordan excells is in writing about Perrin, who in Shadow Rising returns to his home to rally farmers and sheep herders into battle against dark forces.

The longest and best book. The scenes from Rand's ancestral history are worth the price alone. The action is good, the pace is good and what is revealed is sastifying.

My husband introduced me to Robert Jordan and his works, and since that first meeting over The Eye of The World The Wheel of Time Series has become our read-aloud staples. I never was much of a fantasy girl before, but I do really like Jordan's work. These are great, engaging stories and offer a nice escape from everything else.

The viewpoints from Perrin in this book are perhaps my favorite of the whole series.
