I do not claim to understand all of it, but I can relate to most of it. I remember to treat everyone as I would like to be treated, to lend a hand where I can and to better myself. This book helped me stop abusing...” see full review » see other reviews » |

So then, Howard's conjectures on the human mind, consciousness & happiness are from a clinical point of view and the "heart" of the matter does not come through as much as other books from his Wonderful Holiness.”
“This book was enlightening, motivating, and positive. He really touches on finding happiness within yourself, being responsible for it, and exuding it and sharing it with others. The Dali Lama is an inspirational man.”

I was pleasently surprised by the Dalai Lama's approach to happiness.
Instead of wishful thinking and luck, he espouses inner discipline.
He has been meditating since he was a kid for 4 hours a day, so it's someone that knows about a disciplined mind. However, it lacks any hint of arrogance that could come from such expertise. His interactions with D. Cutler always have a gentle rhythm, as if he were constantly re-evaluating his most cherished believes in case something better came by.
Suffering, Kindness and a little bit of spirituality. The book does not require you hold any spiritual believes. His approach is almost scientific (see what creates suffering, see what creates happiness, dispose of the former).
As a world leader, his thoughts are worth listening to. And he doesn't disappoint.
It's a simple book.
Much simpler than I expected. And that, maybe, that is part of the secret to happiness.”
