“This book was kind of interesting, but I think I would have liked it more if I was more into comic books. I don't really like the Green Lantern or Batman, so I wasn't as excited about them as everyone else I know, but I enjoy time travel.”

Instead of becoming a symbol of freedom, Superman becomes the symbol of communism. It's a fascinating story, and is packed with twists and turns. Definitely worth reading if you have any interest at all in the Superman mythos.”

The story has superb twists and turns with familiar charecters popping up from time to time..But the story goes much much beyond comics. It is deep, dark and highly introspective. The story about a journey of a hero, a do-gooder, selfless, sacrificial immortal person transforming into a totalitarian control-freak. He adepts an all seeing all hearing regime encompassing 6 billion communists throughout the world. He is a god, a force to be reckoned with, a voice to be heard and obeyed. Moving ten times the speed of thought, he can almost be everywhere at once to protect his dear fellow earthlings from any disaster. He is not a villain. Nor a dictator. He does this because in his heart, he truely believes this has to be done and who better than he to do it. In the entire story, superman is naive of his dictatorship untill pointed out by Luthor.
The entire story is in reality the never ending battle between superman and luthor. He is America's hero and is so intelligent, he makes Einstein and Stephen Hawking look like kindergarden toddlers. He invents devices in bathrooms, teaches himself Urdu and plays chess with three persons simultaneously for a coffee break. He exists for the sole purpose of destroying superman and succeeds after a gruelling forty years of rigourous planning.
Batman exists as a dark force, a highly intelligent terrorist, the one dark side of a socialist regime...anarchy in black. He hates the superman's regime so much that he joins hands with his parent's killerand lex luthor to set a death-trap for superman.”
“This story is from DC's popular elseworlds storylines. This story reimagines the mythos of Superman being the greatest american hero and turns him into the greatest soviet hero. Superman's ship orginally crashed into Kansas farmland but this story has him crashing into Ukranian farmland and growing up too be a Soviet Superhero. I love how the story transicensions form young Superman too Middle Aged Superman too old Superman. The sory also answers briefly why did he crash in Ukraine instead of Kansas the story also makes you think who's ideals are right American Scientist Lex Luthor, Anarchist The Batman, Or Soviet/Communist Superman. The Story later introduces characters like a more Cruel Hal Jordan as Green Lantern and a Soviet ally of Superman's Wonder Woman. The Story is not only a fun comic ride but intelligent as well. SPOILER ALERT: In chapter 1 you will see a genetically enginerred pro America Bizarro a funny "in" joke. ”

The superman story is well known and thought the nature/nurture debate in comics is jaded, Red Son takes a simple idea and creates a fasciinating alternate history of the second half of the twentieth-century.”

I just finished it today, and I can't believe how glorious it is. Do I sound excited enough for you? The drawings were superb, and the storyline outstanding. Millar & co., have reimagined Superman as a Soviet hero, and everything is topsy turvy. Jimmy Olsen is best friends with Lex Luthor, and Lois Lane is married to Lex. Some super buddies make waves as Superman enemies as well: Wonder Woman, Batman, and Green Lantern. And, Brainiac is Superman's ally!?! YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS OUT! The ending will blow your mind!
*I still haven't read Watchmen, which is supposedly the holy grail of all graphic novels. ”
