“I was expecting this book to have a lot more depth. It felt like she brushed over the surface of this trait, and didn't bother to write with the depth it takes to show sensitivity. It was a bunch of recycled Freud and Jung theories--none of which are based on fact. The case stories were long and drawn out, and her advice for the highly-sensitive person was quite redundant. I found "The Road Less Traveled" and "Gifted Adult" to be much more of a help. It just felt like she wasted an entire book, with obvious information, saying what she could have said in a paragraph or one single page.
Okay, I'm probably sounding like I hated the book but I didn't. It just wasn't right for me. I am donating this book to the library. Since it didn't help me... maybe it will help someone else.”

In "The Highly Sensitive Person," Elaine Aron, Ph.D., explains how some members of our population respond to stimuli, internal or external, with a little more 'oomph'. It doesn't make the person flawed, it just makes them Highly Sensitive. She includes questions to help decipher just how sensitive, plus ideas for how to cope in such a stimulating culture. If you're an HSP, you should read this.”

I believe it useful to have personality traits grouped into syndromes if, as in this case, the grouping and advice helps people. I didn't need to read the whole book, however; a good article would have been just fine. Too long, and I always find advice patronizing. My hangup, I guess ;-) ”
