Autobiographical stories of a childhood growing up in Arkansas and California as a black girl -- vivid details, moving experiences and very disturbing in some parts.

After reading Maya Angelou's memoir, I understand more about what inspired her to write such powerful poetry. Growing up in the racially divided 1950's south, she experienced more in her first 18 years of life than I'll ever know. This book really made me think.

This book is a really interesting book to read. The main characters are Maya and Bailey. It is about Maya's life and what she did. It shows a lot of intensity and awkward parts. What i like about this book is that it was about her when she was little and how bad life was for black kids. I also like that this book had lots of words that i did not even know " good to learn new words" .What i did not like about it is that it had a lot of awkward parts in it. But over all this was a intense and good book for me to read. Yes i would recommend this to a friend.

I am reviewing, I know why the caged bird Sing S. This novel is about Maya Angelou and the ups and downs in her life. Though out Maya's life she has gone through a lot of trauma. This book explains the life of an average african american girl. I thought the book was average. I would give it 3 and a half stars. I did not enjoy it as much because some of the chapters did not make sense and did not have to do with the book. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about peoples lives. Overall this novel was a little morose because of the trauma that Maya goes through. But there is other parts where Maya overcomes the obsticals and rises above the black stereotypes.
