“This novel can be described as a kind of pyschological fantasy. A young girl disappears for twenty years and the novel explores the how her reappearance affects her family. Despite this exciting plot device, this is really a character driven novel with some very lyrical description, interwoven with myth and fairy tale. It's been years since I've read his book, "The Tooth Fairy", but I remember being struck by Joyce's unusual take on the internalization of old stories. He also doesn't do pat endings, but instead leaves you with questions that makes you think about the his stories long after they're finished.”
