Shocker on Shock Street is EXCELLENT! It was written by R.L Stein. It’s about a girl named Erin Wright and her best friend Marty. One day after watching the newest Shocker on Shock street movie, they pay a visit to Erin’s dad’s office. Erin’s dad works on amusement park rides. What a fun job!
So he tells them that he’s designed this new ride based on the Shock Street movies and he want’s them to be the first to test them out! Coolness! Erin is excited but she’s a little weary. She gets scared easily. She makes a little innocent comment that you don’t even pay much attention to and asks why can’t there mom come. It should also be noted that Mr.Wright gives her a odd look. Something you kind of pay attention too and then just put it to the back of your mind.
So when they get into the tram the lady hands them ray guns, and tells them she hopes they don’t have to use them. But then she trips and freezes herself. I’m trying to picture how this could be. Did the ran guy slide backwards at her and shoot? Did it’s beam bounce of something else? But it’s really a joke. The lady isn’t harmed.
First stop the Haunted House of Horror. Reminds me very much of the Haunted Mansion in Disney World. Not that scary. Cool effects. Next stop the tram makes is through a forest. It stops and in jumps…. A bunch of characters.. Asking do they want autographs.
They start to get suspicious because the “costumes” look so real.
Next stop is the Cave of the Living Creeps. But they’re a little TOO real. Worms and maggots fall from the ceiling and they get entangled in spider webs. Then the tram breaks down. When they get out they find themselves faced with a giant circle of insects. Somehow they make it out the cave and find themselves on Shock Street. Just like in the movie.
The wander into a graveyard. Never a good thing. Despite the fact that there is a chain on the gate and I think a sign. But like you guessed it they go in anyway. Straight out of the Thriller video. Hands are popping up out the ground. They try to run and fall into a hole.
Someone pulls them to their rescue. It’s two more of the characters Wolf Boy and Wolf Girl.
But they didn’t help them out to be good citizens. Erin decides enough is enough and she goes to rip the masks off and demand they tell them how to find her dad. But surprise surprise they aren’t wearing masks. They all give chase and find there’s a wall. They think that if they climb over the fall they will end up back in the parking side and find Mr. Wright. Luckilly they see the tram coming and make a jump for it.
Then it gets a little errie. The tram isn’t empty anymore. It’s full of people. Then they see that the tram is out of control and headed straight for a wall. They jump off but the tram keeps going INTO the wall and disappears. It’s like WHAT THE HELL! They figure it’s a ghost train but okay they were PHYSICALLY able to sit in the tram,
So on further investigation they look around and discover that they are on Shock Street. They look around some more and finally find a director and he tells them they are shooting a movie. But this isn’t the twist. Marty has gone off to look in this place that in the movie shocks the mess outta you if you go inside but he figures that’s just in the movies. Erin goes to tell the director and discovers there’s a plug in his back. He’s a robot. She runs into the house but it’s too late Marty is lying on the floor.
She runs to him and in walks her dad. She tries to explain to her dad what happened. But as he looks at her she realizes that this isn’t her dad. She’s screaming for help and then things go blank. Her words suddenly become incoherent. At first you think he did something to her. Then the studio engineer comes in and he says that there are programming errors and he had to shut down the kids robots. At this point I am like totally amazed that they were robots all along. He said he knew it was something wrong with the Erin one when she didn’t recognize him and then in the office asked about
her mother. Since when did she ever have one? Then he picks them up and says he will have them fixed good as new for the next test run.
Wow! I must say this was one of the better Goose bump books. The ending had me blown away . It was unexpected! Robots experiencing test with other Robots. This one most have really left an impression on me because I couldn’t wait to tell my best friend about it. I give this one eight stars which is a B. The plot was good. Even if at first it wasn’t THAT scary. The grave yard and the ghost train were the ones that creeped me out the most. I really don’t have any criticisms for this book. A definite read in the series!
