The Legend of the Lost Legend is written by RL Stein and is from the Goose bump series. Justin Clarke and Marissa Clarke dad have brought them to Brovania in search of the Lost Legend. The Lost Legend is said to be worth billions. After frustrating their dad with minor incidents they are determined to be the ones to find this hidden treasure, and be famous. One night from out of no where a strange dog finds them and becokkens them to follow him. He has a note that says he can lead them to what they are looking for. So they follow him through the forest, all most getting lost in the process.
He leads them to a little cottage where there’s a strange Viking lady inside named Iyawna. She invites them in and gives them some warm soup. She then informs them that if they can pass the test the treasure that they seek will be theres. She introduces them to Luka, who seems to be half animal, half human. She tells them that Luka will be there guide. She then tells them to get some rest that the survival test will begin in the moring.
When Justin and Marissa wake up the test has begun and they’re in the middle of a forest. Immediately they lose Luka and find a note that tells them without him they have NO chance of making it. The first test is they’re soon attacked by hordes of mice. That kinda leaves a itchy creepy feeling up your spin of rodents crawling all over your body. Luckily Justin discovers that there is a button on one of the mice stomach’s that activates it. They switch them off but not before he grabs a few and sticks them in a back pack that Iyawna has given each of them. The next task are the trees all seem to be falling over. One falls on top of Marissa and crushes her but the tree is also fake. Then I think they almost sink into something like quick sand.
There rescued by two giant kittens, but only before they are about to devour them whole. Justin gets an idea to get one of the mice out his backpack, switch it on, and hope that this will distract the cats. They’re almost swallowed but when Justin’s back pack drops a few of the mice are activated. The cats spit them back up and go after the mice. I think then they hear Silver dog calling for them. He leads them back to the cabin. They find Iyawna slumped over the table …with a key in her back..
She isn’t real either. Then in comes Luka. Surprise! Surprise! He can talk and walk upright. Luka congradulates them on passing the test. He explains that he built the whole Fantasy Forest. He did it as a way to prevent those that weren’t worthy of gaining the treasures and that they won by telling what was real and what was fake. He explains he created Iyawna because who would believe that a half human half beast would be smart enough. He even starts pulling off his “fur”. So he hands over the silver chests and point them back in the direction of there father.
On the way back they hear footsteps and are being followed. Luka has wondered them about thieves in the forest. I think Justin trips and the chests goes flying into the hands of another man. Turns out to be there DAD. He’s over joyed to find out they’ve found the chest and too much and even my anticipation they open the chest and find……………….
An EGG! They’re like what the hell is this?
Silver dog leads them back to Lucka and he’s like My Bad! I thought yal wanted the Every lasting Egg. Now am I the only one or am I wondering what this egg does? They might have been better off keeping the egg. But they want the manuscript so he tells them a bunch of wonders have it. He tells them where they can find them although they don’t stay in the same spot. He also tells them they might not hand over the chest.
They do find the wanders who GLADLY give up the chest. They pull out the paper and it says something like the owners of the Lost Legend will be Lost forever. Then they look around and don’t know where they are. DAMN!
I give this book seven stars. I like the concept of the Fantasy Forrest although from Justin and Marissa perspective it seems a little scary. Okay to mine too not knowing that it’s “fake” in the beginning. I doubt very seriously those big cats were fake. But from one minute to the next you never knew. You just kinda had to guess. I definitely think the mice thing was scary. I have a thing about rodents and the mere sight of them. As usual the ending threw me. I was like dang that’s so messed up. They came all the way to Borvania only to get this worthless piece of paper and get themselves lost. I guess it’s true that everything that glitters ain’t always gold. I wonder how long it will be before they find someone else to pass that off too? Makes you wonder if they should have just keep the egg.
