Madame Curie: A Biography by Eve Curie

This book is a biography about Eve Curie, told in the perspective of Marie Curie, her daughter of Marie Curie written by her younger daughter, Eve. It outlines Marie’s life from her childhood in Poland to her adult life as important scientist in France. She studied at a renowned university in Paris, called the Sorbonne. While attending the Sorbonne, Marie met Pierre Curie, her future husband. Later on in her life, Marie would make important discovers and advances in the science field such as her discovery of radioactivity and the element Radium which won her the Nobel prize in Physics and later in Chemistry. Also, this book focuses on her time and dedication to her laboratory work.

While I read this book, I realize that this biography narrates more about the person than straightforward facts. This made me ponder if this book is written with the truth rather having alterations. But, this aspect made me want to read more about the life of Marie Curie. Without her accomplishments, some very important medical and scientific discoveries may not have been possible.

I recommend this book to people who do or don’t have knowledge about science since this book does not have complex scientific information to comprehend. Knowing about Marie’s scientific discoveries is a nice touch since it made a huge impact on society. This book touches the best of both worlds, her achievements and her personal life as well. The reader sees this person as a ‘’real person’’ besides reading a bunch of facts in a biography. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in scientists.
