This one is about a woman who married the man she thought was perfect, only to find out that he was a serial killer. She gets him convicted, but 2 years later he breaks out of jail and is on the hunt for her.
Compared to the other Gardner books I have read, this one wasn't as fast paced and wasn't as suspenseful. I kept waiting for it to pick up a bit more, but it never did. The story picked up after the husband had broken out of jail, so I think maybe this was why it was so slow. If it had included the fight to get him into jail, I think it may have been a bit better.

“You will cheer for Tess right up until the end. This one I was on the edge of my seat. Finished it in two days flat. My husband was so cranky because I wasn't talking to him going down the road--just reading! At times it made me feel like --go, go, go, go--Gardner gets you right in there with the characters. AWESOME!”

“Loved it. Lisa Gardner is great, I've yet to read one of her books I did'nt like. I like some more than others..but for the most part she is a great author and I ready EVERY book she writes.”

“I read this book a long time ago, I was maybe 12 when I read it so I thought it was good then, I realize this isnt very helpful to people who want to read it now but when I read it I thought it was really interesting and exciting.”

“At the beginning you know who the killer is but it doesn't stop there. Lisa again has you on the edge wanting to find out what he's going to do next.”

“I absolutely loved this whole book. It was great the whole thing. I felt like I knew the characters when it came to the end. The end ended perfectly like I thought it might but with a twist. This is the first book in the series and I already have the other books lined up to read. (thanks to ebay) Lisa Gardner is brilliant in her writing! I just could go on and on. This is an AWESOME BOOK! READ IT!”

“Writing & editing were decent. The plot wasn't very suspenseful -- after a huge amount of background information was presented in the first 20 pages, I knew the eventual outcome in 2 key plot areas. Even so, it was a quick read (at 400+ pages) because the "when, how, & where" questions weren't so easily resolved. I understand this series has continued, though the "continuing character" introduced in this book only got a few pages of text. I may read another someday, but don't feel compelled to dig into the series right now.”
