According to Vonnegut this is Timequake #2 because he wasn't very happy with the first version and rewrote it. It is on one level an account of his life and the times he met Kilgore Trout, familiar to readers as Vonnegut's alter ego in Slaughterhouse 5, and the timequake, an event that takes...

I was excited for this book so maybe that's why I'm so disappointed. I enjoyed Slaughterhouse Five and the idea of becoming "unstuck in time." I thought this book would be similarly intriguing but I felt like he gave short shrift to the timequake idea. What's more, his explanation of how the book...

According to Vonnegut this is Timequake #2 because he wasn't very happy with the first version and rewrote it. It is on one level an account of his life and the times he met Kilgore Trout, familiar to readers as Vonnegut's alter ego in Slaughterhouse 5, and the timequake, an event that takes place on 13 February 1991 and when the entire world is thrown back 10 years and lives those 10 years again without any free will. Chaos ensues when free will returns after the 10 years and airline pilots, drivers, and people in general do not realise that the plane / train / car / bike / feet will no longer continue without their direction. Vonnegut messes around with our concepts of time, free will and history but in the funniest, gentlest way

What's more, his explanation of how the book came about at the start seems like an apology for a book that is so haphazard. It should have remained unpublished.

This book, Timequake, by Kurt Vonnegut is BY FAR the worst Vonnegut book that I have read. It is about how suddenly, the world rewinds ten years, and the people of the world have to relive their lives over again. It was not a very good idea for a book. Similar to what he does in Cat's Cradle, he invents these creative, science fiction things which are simply stupid and make very little sense. It seems as though Vonnegut, after the success of Cat's Cradle was looking to write a similar book, yet it did not nearly meet my expectations of his work. After reading Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse 5, I became a Vonnegut fan, yet after reading this book, my animosty to him has deminished slightly.

I really got into this one, so I don't understand what all the complaining is about. The premise is terrifying and I don't think he failed to explore it properly. So what more could you want?

This novel by Kurt Vonnegut may not be one of his most well known, but it was an entertaining book none-the-less. This book was a bit confusing because of the way it was written, it was going back and forth too much, dealing with issues further in time, then jumping back to the present. The book is written in a pretty fun but kinda sad tone, it's hard to describe, but it gave me an odd feeling when reading. This book had the same humor as the other Vonnegut books I've read which i enjoyed because that is what i like most about his novels. Unfortunately though i didn't like that this book was really hung up on these crazy theories or repeated ideas. It didn't leave much room for imagination and sometimes i got lost or bored by this. I think the book could have been better if he had not kept repeating things. This was one of the main things i did not like about the book. I would suggest this book to someone who is a fan of Kurt Vonnegut and finds his humor to be a strong point in his writing. This book tries to examplify that, but doesn't do a very good job.

Vonnegut is as good as usual, this book was a bit on the sad side and not entirely on purpose(because part of it takes place in 2010 and he didn't make it that long). Its mostly a reflections on his life, and bits of one of his first books that never got published.

In brief: the universe contracts and then expands, forcing the world to relive a decade. A lot of focus on Kilgore Trout. This book is a fine example of what I enjoy most about Vonnegut's work--the emphasis on the importance of family and of kindness, mixed with Vonnegut's particular humor.

Nowhere near the brilliance of Slaughter-House Five, but still a good read. Might go off tangent too much, with the main story taking a backstep, with a semi-autobiographical story coming at the fore before the plot. Some funny moments as well...
