- Dave Elliot: father of Sam, wanted Samantha to spend 1 year in N.Y. looking for her grandmother who had left when sam was only 8 months old. He left stipulations in his will that she do this if she was to get her inheritance. with the help of his friend Michael Taggert. His landlord and now hers. also wanted Mike to be her guardian.
- Gertrude Elliot aka Maxie: Samanthas grandmother and Daves mother. Ran away when Sam was only 8 months old, dissappeared and only sent a message that she was safe. After that there was no more word from her. Night club singer of the blues.
