Didn’t Like It

This was a pleasant book to read although it seemed to lack substance and fire especially in the chemistry between Joe and Mariah.

I was bothered by Mariah's resemblance to Joe's dead wife. It almost seemed as if he would not have cared for Mariah if she hadn't had that similarity...

Rodeo cowboy wakes up in his horse trough with city girl staring down at him. Turns out she thinks he is on her ranch. Turns out hers is the run down on across the road. She has inherited her father's house. This is a fun story

Good book but too much "hurry-up" toward the end. Better to have shortened the main story, as I found there was too much repitition of angst over the h/h differences there. Basically, though, the story would have been a great one.

An enjoyable read, though pretty cliche. I will likely give more in the series a try anyway.

I was bothered by Mariah's resemblance to Joe's dead wife. It almost seemed as if he would not have cared for Mariah if she hadn't had that similarity physically.

The story itself was entertaining and the town of Jubilee was endearing if a little too cutesy.

Quick read - harloquin romance type series, but still good. Cute story line. Will read others in series.

Good book. I really liked both characters and the other people of the town. Mariah came to Jubilee after her father died. She was still feeling a lot of hurt from his abandonment, and planned to simply sell the land and go back to Chicago. Joe wanted the land but wouldn't have the money for a couple months. She agreed to stick around until he did, and decided to start up her own wedding planning business while she was there. Joe was glad she was giving him a chance to get the money needed. Joe was still in recovery mode from losing his wife a couple years before. The more he got to know her, the more he liked her. There was a lot of back and forth between the two, due to their individual issues. Mariah was afraid to commit because she thought Joe was just like her dad. Joe didn't think he could love again after losing his wife. Part of the problem they both had was that neither wanted to be the first to say "I love you". I liked the way that Joe was so supportive of Mariah's business and did so much to help. I also liked the way that the people of Jubilee also made her feel welcome. I liked the side romance between Ila and Cordy and the way they helped Joe and Mariah at the end. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

I have been blessed to receive books to read and review, and in doing so I often encounter an author I would not have otherwise read. THE COWBOY TAKES A BRIDE by LORI WILDE is one of them.

Out of work, Mariah Callahan heads to the land her estranged father willed her. She had one goal…get in and get out. But life doesn’t always turn out like you plan.

Joe Daniels is doing just fine…or so he thought. When his best friend’s daughter shows up at his place, he has one goal. To get rid of her. But there’s a problem. He’s attracted to her.

The first two-hundred pages I was totally captivated. I couldn’t put it down. The writing was amazing, the characters wonderful. The only things I could say bad about the book was the foul language.

Around page two-hundred it slowed down. I’m not sure what happened but it kind of flat lined for me. It may have been because the first portion was so riveting. It may have been due to the explicit sexual encounter. I typically read Inspirational/Christian fiction. The main characters were kind of bouncing back and forth on the same issues as well. For me that could have been eliminated or at the very least, cut back on or handled differently.

Somewhere around the last seventy or so pages it picked back up. Once again I couldn’t put it down. The ending was wonderfully unique.

MS. WILDE certainly knows how to write a story. I loved the beginning of each chapter. The writing was amazing with unique lines, a wonderful storyline, and full of twist and turns. I’m certainly interested in reading more from her in the future.

I enjoyed this book. It featured two wonderful characters, just enough sweetness and funny moments and without too much sappiness to take me out of the story. The romance is between a widower and the daughter of his bestfriend and former partner. Joe has been grieving for the death of his wife and best friend while Mariah was resentful of her father and of leaving Chicago. But soon the two were attracted to each other but afraid to commit. The pacing of the story was wonderful too except for that bit of misunderstanding at the end.
