I bear a deep red stain that runs from my left shoulder down to my right hip, a trail left by the herbwitch's poison that my mother used to try to expel me from her womb.
Misericorde: An ancient dagger crafted by Mortain Himself that full initiates carry. It possesses old, ancient magic, one of Mortain's greatest gifts. On a living man, it only needs to pierce the skin as a cut or scratch in order to release the soul from the body. It is meant as a weapon of grace for it is a way to invoke death and release the soul from painful days spent lingering and pondering one's sins and wrongdoings.
Recommended for ages 14 and up due to sexual insinuation, there is nothing graphic here. However, the time period encompasses female helplessness and male dominance - present but not overwhelming. The beginning sequence where the main character barely escapes an arranged marriage is probably the most graphic in the book. The length will deter most readers not ready for the content.
