“Gone with the Wind is my all time favorite book, and I felt somewhat morally obligated to read Uncle Tom's Cabin as a counterpoint. I think it's a bit heavy handed with the moralizing "Mother... what would you do if you were in her position???" and it is quite emotionally manipulative. However, I think the character sketches do bring to life the evils of slavery and how it affected the slave, master, and all Americans of the time. A very interesting window into a very dark time in American history. Far more interesting than anything I read in my history books.”
“My group Classical Re-education will be reading this book July 2009, discussions will follow. Please join us: http://www.shelfari.com/groups/32384/discussions/121736/Uncle-Tom-s-Cabin---Stowe”
“the novel is the only book which keep the history from oblivion .......... because it's tell us about the people feelings .. thier dialogues ... and thier real life in that period .”

“i am noticing a pattern here, on many of the classics, especially the ones where school aged young people are assigned to read them, there are tons of this is a good book, i like this book, or i didnt get this book. or whatever. it would be great to see a few comments lookng at what about the book impacted you. just my personal opinion, of course, but generally cheerleading doesnt do much for the cause,,,”
