One of the best books I've ever read, definitely a page-turner. Sue Townsend managed to write a hilarious bestseller and at the same time address some of life's most important questions. This book should, in my opinion, be part of the school curriculum!

Liked this book - some laugh out loud moments - can't see my family putting up with this behaviour though - or me putting up with the behaviour of her family for that matter.

written on the cover: "I laughed until I cried" did not meet my expectations. However, I liked the story, but it was kind of tragicomedy, not to laugh out loud

As her uber intelligent and emotionally inept twins leave for university Eva takes to her bed and stays there. Her husband, mother and mother in law are dismayed, perplexed and outraged putting it down to laziness or craziness. Inadvertantly word spreads and rumour (Twitter) invests her with spiritual and healing powers she can't live up to. As she attempts to retreat further from the world the 'handyman, Alexander, rescues her - literally. Promoted as laugh out loud funny but i'd say occasionally amusing.

I've read most of Sue Townsend's books over the years, but, with the exception of Adrian Mole, they are always a bit disappointing. It is dark humour - but generally so dark it stops being funny.

The review quote on the front said "I laughed until I cried". Well it didn't work for me. Some parts were amusing, others were sad but some of it was just daft. Didn't live up to my expectations.
