Before reading a book I read a bit about it. . location, general story line etc. After reading the summary I thought "oh no not another women who leaves everything and everyone she knows to "find" herself." I read books to learn about things other than what comes from my personal experiences so. . I pulled my bear trap mind open and read it with the intent of understanding and learning. What I saw was a women who had no self worth and chose an a extreme way of healing. . .hiking the Pacific Crest Trail all 1,100 miles of it alone.
Wilderness Therapy has been accepted as a viable program for troubled teens. The concept being get rid of everything and then start building value and worth from the inside. When you don't have anything you can really put things in perspective.
Sometimes I wanted to scream at her and ask if her if she lacking brain cell synapses as her choices so clearly self sabotaging. Being human is forgivable and recognized that I had struggled with many of the same issues feeling no hope and watching your family go on without you is heartbreaking.
Do I recommend this book. . .yes!
