“This book had setting. A glamourous hotel chock full of secrets and dangerous beauty. I think that alone held my attention. It was pretty entertaining. And the undercurrent of the story--beauty and fame and fortune isn't worth your soul--was handled decently well. This was an easy read, and I enjoyed it enough that it probably deserves four stars, but there was a handful of little things I believe could've been handled better. Then again, there was a handful of things that made me cheer, as well. Namely...
the hot evil dude that Haven falls for at first sight turns out to be an evil zombie! YAY. (Though he does try to redeem himself, but Haven won't be fooled twice.) Avoiding cliches. That is wonderful. Instead, the geeky friend that sticks with her through the whole novel ends up winning Haven. YAY. That is brilliant.
And also why I would give this book 3.5 stars if I could. It really pleases me when an author doesn't rigidly follow the formula for the genre she's writing in, because there's a crapload of cliches out there I'm pretty sick of in the paranormal YA universe.
And yet I keep reading. Alas. ”

“O M G! My favorite book of all time! I could really feel the anguish of the main character, as everyone was under the thumb of the evil recruiter of which run the club. The book was so animated and full of emotion and the nagging need to fix what others have wrecked. And though i love paranormal romance, as part of the main role in a book, the author was so amazing at what she does that she only needed to include a drop, which made it perfect. I also loved the personalities of the friends in the story because it really made the tone of the book, cooked to perfection! I absolutely loved her best friend, he was fun, playful, and funny all in the best ways. The person, a recruiter, that she thought she was falling for made a twist. It was perfectly perfect.
“Beautifully written--totally accessible for young adults--Dark and Lovely--Would not be surprised if Agresti's series took off like Twilight did for Meyers.”Mrs. Branham, CHS Library Media Specialist wrote this review Sunday, April 7, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“I really enjoyed this book. I felt like it didn't really get to the action until part 2. I was glad that things turned out good in the end and that there is another book coming out soon. I like Haven and Lance ended up together. I did want to know more about what the wings jewelry symbolized and more about their past and their scars. ”Courtney J wrote this review Sunday, January 27, 2013. “Overall I enjoyed this book. A girl and two classmates are chosen for an exclusive internship at an up-and-coming hotel. Everyone there is beautiful and talented but something is just not right.
I thought the idea was original and generally well written. The dialogue was genuine and felt realistic to the age of the characters. The main character was likeable and I enjoyed the supporting cast as well - or hated them in the case of the "bad guys."
The reason I did not give this book a higher rating is because it was very drawn out and there were some inconsistencies that bothered me.
There were entire scenes in this book that were not necessary and other scenes that could have been much shorter and still have moved the story along. Because of this the book felt very drawn out in places. This did not need to be a 500+ page book. It could have been significantly shorter while still telling the story, setting the scene and developing the characters.
Some things just did not make sense to me.
All in all I really enjoyed this despite it's failings and am looking forward to the next in the series.”
