This narrator of this book, about Nazi Germany, is Death, which provides a great perspective on a well-worn story, the characters in this one being an orphan girl who is adopted by a very poor German family.

Love it. Very interesting to read from the point of view of Death.

after the first few pages and the annoyance of death-as-narrator was dismissed, I enjoyed the story and the writing very much.
    it is a moving book.

I loved this book I read it twice! The writing style was amazing with the use of allegory and foreshadowing. You fall in love with the characters - Liesl, Hans, Max - all are memorable. I highly recommend it.

This book took me a few chapters to get into. I'm so glad that I stuck with it, the last 100 pages were phenomenal. I already knew that the narrator was "Death", this helped I believe. I do not feel knowing that prior to reading it spoils anything, in fact, the book made more sense to me because I knew that. I adored the characters, I became completely invested in them. I actually thought about Leisel, Hans, Rudy, Mrs. Huberman etc. for weeks after I finished the book. It touched my soul like no other book I have ever read. To me that is a sign of a very good book. I can definitely say this is one of my favorite books I have ever read. I cannot recommend it enough.
