“Great book...confusing beginning, but once you get into it, it is wonderful. Great YA book; but good for all ages!”
“This book is one of the best books I've read in a while. There are two other historical fiction novels on my shelf that are also powerful reads. COPPER SUN by Sharon Draper and THE ASTONISHING LIFE OF OCTAVIAN NOTHING: THE POX PARTY by M.T. Anderson. I agree with Shaikha a, BOOK THIEF, (and the other two I mentioned) can be enjoyed by both the YA and adult market. I predict BOOK THIEF will become one of the classics. It's that good.”
“Read Inkberry's review and you know what I think of the book thief. It's a wonderful book about a little girl who is living with foster parents during the Second World War. Her real mother had to bring her their because and she and her husband were prosecuted for being communists. The narrator of the story is the death. The story is beautiful and yes, you can´t stop crying in the end. Zusak started writing the book for children. But it´s for people of every age............”
“Just finished the book with tears streaming down my face....you can't help but get involved with the characters and feel what they are feeling.I enjoyed the ending....don't want to spoil it for everyone, but you do need to read this book if you haven't. I was so happy for Liesel in the ending pages...don't want to reveal what I am hinting at, but those who read the book will know what I am talking about. :)Enjoy when you read it...a book that will be difficult to forget.”
“Highly recommended read! It's touching, palpable and very beautifully written. The drawings included was a like a subplot that added to the charisma of this book. Every Chapter begins with bullet points that could serve as spoilers but always surprise me with the developments. Markus Zusak, kudos to you on this novel.”
“I was just about to ask who the narrator was...thanks for clarifying it.....I am liking the book...it grows on you. :)Very well written.”
“It took a while to draw me in but now I'm hooked. It's a really unusual idea to have Death narrating the story, and like someone else said, you even feel he's a kind of sympathetic presence now and then. I find the chapters a bit too short thought, you're just getting into each one and it ends. I guess this is a stylistic thing to keep the pace moving, but it's a bit irritating. None-the-less I'm really enjoying the journey!”
“If you like historical fiction and you don't mind crying this is a great book. If you want a fairytale ending- do not read. To me a good book is one that brings out many emotions and makes you greatful for what you have. This book did both for me as well as opened my eyes to the lives of many Nazi Germans.”
“This is easily one of my favorite books of all time. I can't stop reading it and, to be honest, I don't want to. I loved the narration by Death. Zusak managed to make Death both caring and compassionate... not to mention sarcastic and blunt. I cried, I laughed, I hoped, I feared... it simultaneously touches on the best and worst of humanity. You experience hope and despair. There is not one person alive that should not read this book.”
“I did NOT like this book at all. The author is a great writer, and i do like the narration of Death, but it didn't give me that "satisfaction" in the end. after i read it, i threw it across my room in frustration.”
