What dod you guys think about Death coming right out and saying who was going to die? Did you like that or would you have rather had the suspense?

I found that I payed more attention to details since I already knew how it would eventually end up. Maybe knowing that characters we really liked were going to die in the end made them even more vibrant and precious? Maybe Zusak is trying to comment on life and death without coming right out and saying it?

It irritated me at first when he spoiled the ending. But it all made sense after finishing the book. It's the "how it happened" and not the "what happened" that made the ending worth-while. It wouldn't have had as much of an impact if he didn't reveal the ending.

I Loved the fact that death told you what was going to happen. It kept the story from being predictable. In fact, I loved the fact that death narrated the story. And that death was out of the sterotype "Grim Reaper" kind of guy. The compassion, and wonder of death added to this brilliant piece of work!

It worked very well because the actual death always happened quite a few pages after Death had told that it would - the in-between pages were read with great attention, empathy for the character and treasuring the character - I appreciated some characters more - realised what they meant to me as I didn't want to see them go - and read the pages with heightened anticipation.

Death has no sense of time. every one dies and since death is the only inevitability in the world it made no difference to the story as Death told it for the story is in the telling not the end or the beginning.

everybody dies the only interesting thing is what people do with the time they are given. that is why the story is so compelling. we want to see what Death found so interesting out of all the life and death that he has seen that he wanted to share with the rest of humanity.

At first I wasn't sure, but now I'm glad he death revealed who was going to die. Otherwise, I think it would have been too painful with the surprise since the concept of the story is painful enough, at least it gave you time to accept it before it happened. And you're right, it made them that much more precious.

I liked the way Death told what was going to happen before the end. The strange part for me was that, even though I knew ahead of time, I was still surprised when it happened. I thought it was an interesting twist to know what was going to happen ahead of time. I mean, you knew WHAT was going to happen, just not necessarily HOW it would happen.

At first i was a little mad, but knowing what happened made the story less cookie cutter. I didn't want to skim until the end so i took more time to get to know the book. Now, a few months after reading it, i still totally love it.
