A major theme of this text set is accepting differences and overcoming the obstacles created by these differences. This novel is set in a society that values conformity and makes every attempt to eliminate individuality. I included this novel in the text set, so that readers can begin comparing a society that struggles with accepting differences to one that strives to do away with them all together.

This book is an interesting book; it makes you travel to a future you’ve never seen pr imagine. This place looks like a perfectJonas's world but it isn’t, it’s a dystopian world. Jonasis the main character and heperfect. Everything is chosen to be The Receiver of Memories, but this jobunder control. There is not as easy as it seems. Jonasno war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is an 11 year old boy at th3e beginning of the book but when he turns 12, everything changes. He getsassigned a job called The Receiver of Memories. This job makes Jonas start to realize things he had never known about and he doesn’t like. These things bring him to the edge.
This book is science fiction, it isrole in the future, there’s a whole more bunch of technology and in some scientific way they created “Sameness”. Sameness doesn’t exist, so that’s the mayor reason of this book being science fiction. This book is also a dystopian world book.
Community. When Jonas is a 12 year old boy;turns twelve, he has been chosen to be The Receiver of Memories, an apparently easy but scary job. Jonas has a sister and his 2 parents. Jonas lives his normal sameness but now that heis receiving memories he becomes different, and also sameness becomes different for him.
The giver is an old man and he usedsingled out to be the Receiver of Memories before Jonas. He is now calledreceive special training from The Giver. He is the one that gives the memories to Jonas, and is now calledThe Giver because he givesalone holds the memories and Jonasof the receiver because he receives memories. Gabe, Gabe is a newborn child that is being watchedtrue pain and taken care by Jonas’s family to see if he can apply to realize or can bee kept and be a kid in Jonas’s community. Hepleasure of life. Now, it is staying in Jonas’s house until it’stime for the decision.
Jonas has a big burden. He is chosen for a big job that includes indescribable pain. Not only physical pain but emotional pain. He discovers and learns horrible things, including his father’s double personality. Now that he discovers his dystopian world he gets all freaked out and he wantsto change his world.
It’s interesting how Louis Lowry thinks that inreceive the futuretruth. There is no one is having pain, and maybe she thinks sameness is really going to exist. Also it’s interesting the idea of The Giver, that he can actually transmit memories by putting his hand in the person’s back. And also that he can have and transmit memories. Obviously they had a lot of technology because of sameness, more technology than here in the actual world.
This book is very good but it has a very vague ending. It has a very good idea and it traps you and makes you want to keep reading. I like the way that the book has many details but maybe they could have explained more the “release” details. And also the plan the giver and Jonas had.turning back.
