When Farmer Bailey hits a man with his truck, he brings him home to stay with the Bailey family while he recovers his memory. The mysterious stranger can’t even talk, but he becomes like one of the family, even though there are many hints that the stranger is very different from other people. I like to use this book to teach inferring with 2nd grade, asking the students to solve the mystery of the stranger’s identity and then recount the clues that led them to their conclusion.
