Stunning artwork, but those stories are so true-to-life memoir.

Gorgeous.

I just happened upon this collection of graphic stories on a recent trip to the local public library and I am so glad I did. Adrian Tomine's art has been described as minimalist, and it is indeed spare. But just as a writer who works so hard to fit as much as possible into as few words as she can, Tomine imbues each image, each facial expression, each gesture with so much meaning that his characters fairly breathe. They are not remarkable people, but Tomine's work is remarkable in that he makes the mundane, the ordinary, the boring fascinating. For those who are from the Berkeley, California area, you will recognize College Ave. quite clearly in the title story. I hope you enjoy this little taste of Tomine.
