“This book took me by complete surprise. I am 34 and the book has been out since I was 19. Never read it and didn't ever really care to read it because really I didn't need to read a book about being a wallflower in highschool because I lived it. Then the trailer for the movie was release and Emma Watson played a lead and then I said "why not".
Certain parts of the book were a bit graphic for me (drinking/drugs) but I was able to get over those parts. They were a bit much and they repeat a lot but the main character is just heartbreakingly real.. as is Patrick and Sam. The ending of the book is not something at all that you would suspect. I was shocked and then I was very angry. In the end I was heartbroken for Charlie. The final scenes are so beautifully written and the topic is so under played that you have to go back to read and make sure that you read correct. Such a subject could have turned the book into such a salacious ending but it was so perfectly handled. I hope that the Charlies of this world do end up ok..”
