“If you grew up in the late 80's early 90's, if you ever saw the Rocky Horrow Picture Show, if you ever felt a little out of touch with "the populars", if you ever thought growing up if a difficult process, then this book is for you. It's edgy but truthful. I loved it and my high school sophomores love it too!”
“A coming of age book that even the adults would love. If i had read at the cusp of my childhood onto my adolescence, I would've probably grown up differently. This book inspired me to write a song, and it ignited a spark that allowed me to reassess: do i think too much? Is it keeping me from participating? It simply tells you to jump right in.”
“A quick read that sucked me in without mercy and imprisoned my heart. I love Charlie. I relate to his feelings although, my teen life experience was way different from his. I bought this book for several of my friends and "made" each of my children read it.”
“As of today, this still remains to be my favorite book of all time. I've read it thrice, and every time felt different. Why do I love it so much? I can't say exactly, but I did share his view of the world. Sometimes we just gotta shut up and observe the way things are. And after we think we have it figured out, we also have to participate. And in that moment I swear we were infinite... ”
“Highly, highly recommended. There are arguable reasons that one might not want to give this book to their 10 year old to read without some guided discussions, but the material is certainly not prurient nor lascivious. It's an excellent story of a messed-up kid who comes into his own through the "help" of some friends during his first year of high school. I teach this book every year in one of my English classes and it kindles some great, and often eye-opening, conversations.READ IT.”
“I loved this book so much. I do not see how someone could hate it . I love the relationship he has with sam.”
“The book seems really good, but i keep getting different opinions on it, some people say it is good, but others simply hate it. Would it be worth reading to find out?”
“Hey this sounds kinda like a book that guys would like, not really girls. Is that true? If not please tell me so I can go read it.”
“Good book! One of the best teen books I have read, actually. We very briefly had a book group at work a few years ago (Dawn and Jeni and me being the only ones still there from it) and that was our book to read. I didn't make it to our second meeting (or the book Emma and Me)”
“In my opinion this book is part of the 'Catcher Cult.' The main character says smart things, listens to 'cool' music, and reads 'awesome' books. It's the perfect product from MTV, and the perfect book for the 'misunderstood.' The first time I read it, it was one of the greatest books I've ever read. The second time, I had basically the same feeling, and then the third time just made me realize that everything about this character was just annoying. He's very bright, and I love the way his friends were portrayed, but Charlie alone just didn't do anything for me. It felt like I was reading about a kid, with the mind-set of my ten year old brother, and his experiences with drugs, and dating. It was almost uncomfortable. Not to say it wasn't well written, and I do agree that this is a book mostly everyone should read at least once. Some of the characters were really there and believable, but it just wasn't for me. ”
