I played Prior Walter in this play, met and conversed with Tony Kushner about it, and have a signed copy. I think that this play is one of the most wonderful pieces of postmodern literature available.

Didn’t Like It

Did not enjoy this play at all. Not a well written play. I do not see what all the fuss is about. It is very dated and jumps all over the place. Perhaps it translates better to stage or screen. It was not well liked in my book group at all, and no one was "offended" by it...just did not think it...

This is an excellent play, and a must-read in my opinion! It touches on many issues that still trouble today's society, and adds a bit of fantasy and satire as well. It is very complex and graphic, but it is worth reading multiple times.

Brilliant text, brilliant play. Good to read, too, not just to watch.

I really enjoyed this play; I thought the characters were excellent and real--they made me want to keep reading. I read this book for a lit class, and it was surprising how many important issues were present on every page, in every line...it was a great read.

Oh gosh, this is definitely my favourite play (not counting Shakespeare's). We were assigned this in an Honors class and I've never loved anything I've had to read for class more. The characters are, hmm, interesting--to say the least--and it's filled with such memorable quotes as, "I wish I was an octopus. A fuckin' octopus." There's also an amazing movie version with Al Pacino and Emma Thompson--but it's more fun to sit outside in a park with friends and act out the various roles.
