“This is an entertaining book, if not exactly a literary choice. I'm reading it because I'm working on a project in Florida and this series is set in Miami, so I can claim (pretty tenuously) that i'm doing project research and getting slightly more familiar with the area, all while reading a trashy mystery novel. But really - it's pretty much a satire of the whole tourism industry, and most mystery novels don't have an eco-terrorist as an anti-hero...”

“Not his best...you can tell that it is an earlier work and he hadn't yet found his "voice". Moves a little slowly and not as funny as his more recent stuff. Glad that I read it, but wouldn't read it again. ”

“Listened to this on CD in the car while traveling--made the time go by very quickly since we laughed all the way. Hiaasen knows how to be outrageous. We're big on plastic surgery in Florida, you know, so there's this Miami hit man who's had a grass edger surged in place of his forearm . . . so it goes. ”

“Got it for Christmas from my sister. Hiaasen is a twisted dude to write such stories..... got me out of where I was and so it was worth the read. Not my favorite book but a lot of other people are going to REALLY enjoy themselves, he just isn't my line of country. His sense of humor is wicked.”

“Alright. Entertaining, but not really gripping. Being the 3rd Hiaasen book I've read in a year - I finally get what everyone's told me: they're all kinda the same.”

“absolutely a fantastic 'beach book' to read while on vacation in Miami if you have a sick sense of humor and think that killing midget county commissioners by cramming plastic alligators in their windpipes is hilarious ”
