“15 BOOKS DURING SUMMER OF PREGNANCY - This author was recommended to me as something I would find completely hilarious… and I did for the most part. I think the only thing negative was that I’d already seen the film version so a lot of the dark comedy and outrageous situations didn’t come as a surprise for me. It was still funny though, especially Darrell’s broken arm and the golf club splint and his final demise. I also really enjoyed the epilogue since it tells you a basic “where are they now” for the cast of characters. Movies often do this and I wish more books would. I’d like to try another Hiassen book in the future, but I think less politics would be better for my interests.”

This wasn't the best book by Hiassen that I've read. As usual, it takes place in Florida, this time in a strip club, where a single mother is working to get the money for lawyers to get her daughter back from her no good ex husband. While she's on stage dancing for a bachelor party, the guest of honor grabs her, and passes out. Another patron of the club jumps on stage attacking the patron with a bottle of champagne. Problem is the attacking patron is a member of congress and can't remember a thing, but he is recogonized by another patron. When the 3rd patron tries to blackmail the congressman, he turns up dead. And the congressman is now infatuated with Erin the stripper.

“The wife of a client of my wife’s is a book reviewer, and so she gets tons and tons of books sent to her. Her husband periodically takes some of the older ones that he thinks I might enjoy and gives them to me, and Striptease was one of those. Since they are not books I actually pick out they tend to sit in my unread pile for some time.
I finally got around to reading Striptease a couple of weeks ago and I was about 20-pages in when I thought to myself, “I swear I’ve read this before, haven’t I?” I continued to read, and it continued to remain familiar, however only the general story was familiar, many of the details felt fresh. One other odd thing as I read was that I kept picturing Ving Rhames as the Shad character, even though he was never described to look that way (in fact I think Shad in the book is white). It wasn’t until the next day that it actually hit me, I never read this book, I saw the movie. Being that the movie came out over 10 years ago, which was also about the last time I saw it, it just never occurred to me that this book collecting dust was one in the same.
So, my thoughts on the book… it was good, a fun, easy read. However, I couldn’t help but feel that it was trying too hard to be an Elmore Leonard book and just not pulling it off as successfully.
