His spectacular A Short History of Nearly Everything was really enough to cement that position, but I’ve recently discovered his set of travel diaries. Notes from a Small Island discusses the tour of the United Kingdom he takes as he and his family...” see full review » see other reviews » |

I recommended to anyone -whether you know Britain well or not. I can't wait to read more from Bill Bryson! Very entertaining, fun reading. ”

Witty insights on everything from the British way of living to badly designed buildings in cities (though he does talk about the latter a little too much for my liking). Not all that he has to say about Britain is bad though. Once in a while, he finds reason for not leaving Britain and how the British culture is better than most other he knows .British audience might get more out of the book than others but there is enough for the general audience. Recommended for all and sundry, especially if you are an official in one of the British transport systems.”

Was quite funny and an easy read. Would probably appreciate it more if i lived in England or had spent more than 4 weeks there. ”
