“Donata is a young girl, born into a noble family and living in 1592 Venice. Her life is limited: noble daughters are protected from the world, and that includes education. As a younger daughter, she will never wed. Donata's fate will be imprisonment in a convent.
But she longs to know Venice, know it in the way she will never be allowed. She hungers to be tutored, like her brothers, and to explore the world as noble girls never do. Donata devises a risky plan to escape and see Venice before she is shut away forever. Her life, and her family's life, will never be the same when she finally gets to live her dream.”
“I think it is a wonderful story. It touched me in a way because I have a big family too, and I know that if something like that would have happened to me, my family would do the same thing. Its very descriptive, filled with the history of the past in Venice.. ”

Was it unfair that Donata was chosen to marry?”

Simple and inspireing.”
“This book started out good because and was a good telling of the times. I liked it because it was educational but in a subtle way. I didn't like it because the main plot of the story didn't have any significance in the end. Danata meets a jewish man who most of the story is based around her being with him but at the end he doesn't have much of a purpose. I think the over all book was good but the ending was not exciting. There was too much climax for nothing”
