“I am so glad this was the last book in the Light Dragon series. Compared to the other books featuring the green and silver dragons by Katie MacAlister, the main characters just didn't grow on me as much. It dragged on longer than it needed to be. Ysolde aka Sullivan, has been resurrected twice, the last time by the First Dragon, a Demi-god who is the father to the entire dragon shifter race, and Baltic (formerly of the Black Dragon Sept) is his last son. The First Dragon has charged Ysolde with getting Baltic to atone for his sins from the past and to join back with the Weyr. Only Baltic turned his back on the Weyr long ago, and has been considered an enemy to most of dragon kind, especially after he cursed the Silver Dragons to not find any mates born for them. Baltic is pretty stubborn, and Ysolde's memory is not what it used to be, thanks to her ex-husband Gareth, who is married to necromancers Ruth. Ysolde is also easily distracted when her mate Baltic seduces her to avoid answering any of her questions. She has visions of the past that anyone around her will also see, wether they want to or not, and these visions are meant to help her find out how she is to help redeem Baltic. It's not until someone kidnaps her son Brom does the action pick up, and things finally lead to how and who will help Ysolde follow what The First Dragon wants, even though he has never said exactly what! ”Lynda T wrote this review Friday, October 5, 2012. “I love Katie Mac. She always makes me laugh even on a bad day. I [3 that Demon Dog Jim . At one point in the book it says, "" That Madwoman/psyco/scary face is good on you,Soldy,Jim said,..."kind of a three breadcrumbs short of a meatloaf look, but effective."
I have to confess that I really love Ysolde and Baltic. It's a wonderful story. Touching, funny and fast. A great read.”
“Loss of steam? I think so...
Too much intrigue? I know so...
Still hot? Yes.
I think this story is suffering from series fatigue. Enjoyable, yet. But confusing and convoluted? Oh yes. I found myself holding back laughter on the bus a lot and I did love Ysolde and Baltic as much as I ever did... but did we need to include every single character from the previous books, no.
Not bad but severely lacking”
“Did not finish. Why ? First I feel asleep 5 times while reading the first 100 pages, something I just don't do. Second, I just could not connect with all the happenings and characters. I like the characters, I like their world, I really enjoyed the Aisiling Grey series. This one just has too much going on for my reading taste. Third and finally I had a big problem with the ability of the characters to observe details of structures and joke while hiking to save her son ?!?!? So unbelievable and distastefully out of character.”Yodamom wrote this review Thursday, May 24, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“MUCH better! The previous in this series were not nearly as good as the Aisling series, but this one was much closer!”whitney wrote this review Friday, May 18, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“What a nice little Mother's Day gift to myself. Love my Katie books and this one is on my list of favorites. I need her lightness of heart and happy endings every once in a while. Her writing style makes you want to be her confidant and best friend. She's such a clever and humorous writer. I'll keep reading them as long as she keeps writing them. The end of this one started to drag just a bit and I missed the drama of the Dark Ones novels. But overall, I enjoy the levity and look forward to KM books.”Isabeau wrote this review Thursday, May 31, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Another fun Light Dragons book. Baltic is being his usual stubborn self. He doesn't feel that he needs to be part of the community of dragons, they are just fine on their own. He feels no need to lift the curse from the silver dragons. He does want to track down Thala and take care of that problem, and get on with restoring his castle. Ysolde is still trying to figure out how to fulfill the First Dragon's demands, especially since he won't tell her exactly what he wants done. She also needs to do some heavy bargaining to acquire some artifacts that she needs for various purposes. When her ex-husband kidnaps her son, she goes on a rampage to get him back. That battle is pretty intense, but with some fun moments too. The final battle of the book is very good, with some serious mayhem happening. I loved the part where she confronts the First Dragon, doing and saying things that make other dragons present cringe, but she doesn't care. The epilogue is great, and I loved the machinations that went on. Ysolde's son Brom is one of my favorite characters, and I loved his mixture of little boy and adult. The scene with Constantine in the sex shop was hysterical. I really hope there will be another Light Dragons book, because I really want to see what happens with Thala.”ScoutmomSKF wrote this review Monday, May 7, 2012. “I want to give this book a better rating, I really do, but find myself exceptionally irritated at Ysolde and the fact that she is a total wuss. I would use stronger language but children may read this. I have a five letter word in mind that would shock most mothers, mine not included!
Ysolde is a dragon dammit, she needs to start acting like one and stop kowtowing to her enemies. If my ex-husband stole my son and ransomed him for gold I would find my son, make sure he was safe, shift to dragon form and eat my ex and his nasty wife. Period. End of story. There would be no getting away. Verbal threats would not suffice.
I did love the appearance of all of my favorite characters from the Aisling Grey Series and the Silver Dragon Series and Jim is always a pleasure.
For fans of MacAlisters Dragon series this will sure to be a hit but for those new to the books may be a little disappointed.”
