  • Wyatt Hunt: A licensed San Francisco private investigator who heads an agency known as the Hunt Club. Born to Kevin Carson and Margie Carson Page, he entered the foster care system at the age or three when his mother Margie was murdered. He was eventually adopted by Bob and Charlene Hunt. He himself worked for Child Protective Services in San Francisco and literally saved the lives of Tamara and Mickey Dade when their mother, dying of an overdose, had left them locked inside their apartment.
  • Kevin Carson: Wyatt Hunt's biological father, twice tried and twice acquitted for the murder of his wife Margie Carson.
  • Margaret "Margie" Carson née Page: Biological mother of Wyatt Hunt, she was murdered in 1970 when he was three years old.
  • Susan Wells Page: Mother of Margie Page, who married Kevin Carson and gave birth to a son who was three years old when she was murdered. Susan is now 76 and lives in an assisted living facility called Indy-Gardens in Indianapolis, Indiana.
  • Gina Roake: A San Francisco attorney who for a time was Wyatt Hunt's girlfriend.
  • Ivan Orloff: An investigator and former San Francisco police officer who works for Wyatt Hunt. He is in his early thirties.

  • Jill Phillips: A 42-year-old mother of two teenagers, she is doing a three-year apprenticeship at the Hunt Club that would give her the six thousand hours of investigative work that she's need to quality for her PI license.
  • Bettina Keck: A black woman who was Wyatt Hunt's partner when he was a field-worker at Child Protective Services. She is now a deputy director.
  • Father Don Bernard: A Catholic priest in his mid to late seventies who knew Wyatt Hunt's birth parents. He lives at the rectory of Star of the Sea Church.
  • Maria: Kevin Carson's Mexican wife.
  • Dan Rigby: Former chief of police of San Francisco, now retired.
  • Jim Burg: Deceased SF police officer, who was Dan Rigby's partner at the time of the Margie Carson murder. He is said to have committed suicide.
  • Elinor Burg: Wife of Jim Burg, the SFPD officer who supposedly committed suicide.
  • Abe Glitsky: Chief of Homicide in San Francisco.
  • Martin Ingalls: A retired SF cop.
  • Callie Lucente: An employee of the Asset Protection Department of AT&T in San Francisco. She is Wyatt Hunt's go-to person in the telephone company.
