“Among the fascinating elements in this trilogy is the progression in the role played by women, from minimal in the first, to central, but as acted on, not acting, and finally as a central cause of the outcome. A progression, carried futher in CSL's final novel, Till We Have Faces, in which he speaks in the voice of the woman protagonist.”
