It made me hate all of the bad things I've ever thought were bad and it made me sad and I cried and it sucked and the morning after finishing the second half, I spent the day in my own little black hole. I think I might reread this once again in my life, and I'll certainly be getting a copy for my shelf. Damn John Green for ever sitting down to write this book.
If I haven't made myself clear, this is a must-read. Buy it now.”
“As John Green's video said in his Question Tuesday video on TFiOs, this book made me feel "ALL OF THE THINGS."”

I read this book because John Green was mentioned on a book of the week on a podcast (Writing Excuses: featuring: Howard who writes Horror, Dan who writes a sci-fi comic strip, Mary who used to be a puppeteer and writes Jane Austenish, and Brandon Sanderson) I have been listening to. The guest on the show said that if you write YA you should read John Green, so I did, just not the one she recommended because I read the free sample of this one and REALLY liked the main character.
When I started reading this book, I contemplated printing my manuscript, just so I could throw it away, symbolizing how right now I think it is crap. I won't because I'll probably feel better about it tomorrow.
Anyway, good book. Good, sarcastic, intelligent, and well-written main character.
Warning: I do have to give it my language warning however, though not excessive and every other sentence.”
“listened on audio book, which I feel really added to this books charm. It was a good listen, and there were plenty of surprises along the way. It deals with illness in young people, death and dying in a unique way. Good read.”

Hazel (16) has been having cancer for several years now and takes portable oxygen around with her, otherwise she can't breath properly. She is depressed and unhappy about her situation, that seems to be incurable. At a Support Group for children with cancer, she meets Augustus Waters. He's beautiful and he can't take his eyes off her!
They become friends and Hazel is finally having fun again. She lends Augustus her favorite book and together they decide to go the Amsterdam, to find the author, as they want to know what happened to the characters after the book was finished. With Hazel being ill, they may not actually get the opportunity to travel.
Being Dutch, I very much liked it that some of the book is set in the Netherlands, in Amsterdam. I don't know the city very well, but all seemed to be accurate an insightful.
I also liked the budding love story between Augustus and Hazel. They're attracted to each other but Hazel doesn't want to get too attached so he won't be too heart broken when she dies. Of course it doesn't work like that.
The book is full of disappointment, temporary happiness, trying to put your mark on the world, sadness, and coping.
It's brilliantly written with nothing out of place. I liked it but didn't love it, as lots of people seemed to do. It was a good read, for all ages, but it didn't touch me, somehow.”
“Very Good Book. Very easily one of my favourite books”

I wasn't sure that I'd like it since it deals with Cancer and I feared it would depress me but it wasn't that sort of story at all. I think it's the sort of book that anyone would enjoy.”
