The story takes place during the French and Indian War in the wilderness of Colonial New York. The war between the French and British is headed toward British victory, though events on the frontier hint at future conflict between the British victors, Colonial settlers, and the Native inhabitants.
- Fort Edward: Fort Edward was the most heavily fortified base of operations in New York for the British during the French and Indian War. I
- Ranger Island: A small island in the middle of the Hudson River next to Fort Edward. It serves as the base of operations for MacKinnon’s Rangers.
- Fort Ticonderoga: Formerly Fort Carillon, Fort Ticonderoga was taken by the British in 1759.
