  • Anna: Middle-aged widow with a teenage daughter, Anna spends time in her old hometown to take care of her late mother's Estate. She revitalizes old friendships, makes new ones, and comes to realize that she needs to escape her manipulative mother-in-law and decides to open an Inn.
  • Hazel: Lovely old lady who rents Anna's grandmother's cabin in order to research Anna's Siuslaw heritage for her doctoral project.
  • Babette: French woman who was her mother's best friend. Is referred to like being Anna's Aunt and eventually serves as as a substitute Mother for Anna.
  • Clark: Hazel's son who is a contractor and helps Anna modernize her mother's estate.
  • Estelle: Anna's overbearing and manipulative mother-in-law, a cruel and selfish woman who treats Anna as a maid and has a very strong dislike of the fact that Anna is of Native descent.
  • Lauren: Anna's teenage daughter - around 17-18 years old. Spoiled and can not understand why her mother is doing what she is doing.
  • Adam: Anna's late husband who fought in WWII and later committed suicide from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
  • Henry: Local boat-owner who ferries Anna and others up and down the river as well as makes deliveries.
  • Marshall: Clark's teenage son
