This is a book I did not like from the start. First, the grammar was bad. It was not ungrammatical all the time but some times. I do not have perfect grammar but i think if you're planning on becoming an accomplished author you have to be at least good at formulating sentences. The author likes dangling modifiers, he likes semi-colons, he likes complex sentences and COMPLEX WORDS. For example, the author would write "he nods in concordance" instead of saying "he nods in agreement". I did not like the characterization. There were no introduction to the characters, just a single sentence to their looks and thats it. You do not get to know them and they're inconsistent. There was no real climax. The characters have the easy life. They're rich, they have powers, they're good-looking. They're only problem was a slutty girl and a guy who also has super powers who is easy to kill. I'm not looking forward to the next book which unfortunately I also won. I'm really sorry. I tried to like it and wanted to provide a really good review but I can't like to myself. Not everyone has the same taste, so somebody would like this but not me.

Where to start? Ok, i wanted so badly to like this book, it had been on my to-be-read shelf for a long time. But .... i just didn't. I basically forced myself to finish it. It wasn't awful, i'm not saying that, this is a new author and it's very noticable in the book, but having said that, he does show promise. I like the idea of the book, the paranormal aspects. But the way the characters talked, and lets note these are college kids, they talked as if they wer 60 year olds at times. If not that the book should have been set in the early 1900's to make the way they talked more understandible. I also have trouble with the characters, i didn't feel like i could relate to them, Stephen, one of them is supposed to be in love w/ the other main character Lisa, but most of the time he is talking about how sexy the other females in the book are and comparing their looks to Lisa's. And his cousin in the book, Stacy, he talks and they act as if they are more than cousins at times. It also needed editing quite badly, at time's i had to re-read whole paragraphs to just to understand what i had just read. I do not fault the author because he is such a new author and i do want to give him props for the paranormal elements of being able to control the elements of fire and ice/water. That part was good. It was the rest that wasn't so much. Now this is not to say nobody would like this book, i think everyone should have their own opinion about a book and this is just mine. At this time i don't think i will continue on to the second book, though i may at a later time decide to read it, i just right now want to read something else as i had such a hard time with the first one. Happy reading! =)
