• Dr. Adoulla Makhsloud: 60-something-year-old ghul slayer, who wants to retire.
• Raseed bas Raseed: Dr. Makhsloud's 17-year-old assistant, a "dervish of the Order" and expert swordsman. (His name means "Raseed, only Raseed" showing his devotion to his Order over family.)
• The Falcon Prince / Pharaad az Hammaz: A mysterious character who seems to be a "Robin Hood" sort who dares to defy the rule of the Khalif of the Crescent Moon kingdoms. The people of Dhamsawaat seem divided over whether he is a mere thief and traitor, or a hero.
