  • Angel City: The city in which the bulk of the story takes place. Named for the AI controlled androids that act as humanitarians, who were developed and built there.
  • MINDspace: MIND stands for Military Interactive Neurolinked Diorama. It is a type of computer Virtual Reality intially developed by the military to create and test Angels. Mindspace is used by the general public as a partially- to fully-immersible social network.

  • Samaritans: A non-profit group that assists "Lifers" (ie, people who have remained plugged into the MINDspace for extended periods of time-- from months to years) as they make the transition back to reality. Reasons for the "eviction" from MINDspace can range from financial issues to family intervention.

  • ANGEL: Autonomous Non-Genetic Engineered Lifeform - An autonomous AI with free will in a powerful android body.
  • ARCHANGEL: Adaptive Response Combat Hierarchy Autonomous Non-Genetic Engineered Lifeform - A military ANGEL under development.
  • HEAVEN: Haptically Enhanced Advanced Virtual Environment ( ENvironment/Nodes/Network depending on the level at which the acronym is used ) - Where ANGELs were created and tested.
  • COT: Conciousness Override Terminal - These are the gateway to MINDspace - They replace the user's senses with input data from MINDspace so that they experience the world of MINDspace.
  • Military Diorama: The original simulation project in which AIs were used to predict the outcome of conflicts. Basically a virtual world set up for combat situations.
  • MIND: Military Interactive Neurolinked Diorama - This is the advanced version of the Military Diorama project and allows humans to participate directly in the simulation within the virtual world.
  • MINDspace: Civilian version of MIND - somewhat like the Internet, but a virtual world that can be visited and even lived within. Originally the word space refered to "Simulated Places And Controlled Environment" but later just became space.
  • SCAFFOLD: Self Contained Active Feeding Facility and Online Life-support Device - The external device that contains a CRADLE and provides sustenance to the user who can spend extended periods in MINDspace while their
  • CRADLE: COT-based ( see COT ) Reality-Altering Direct Link Environment. A COT designed to replace every sense such that the use is no longer aware that they are in a virtual environment - it is designed to allow extended immersion within MINDspace.
  • DEMON: Direct-Engagement Military Offensive Neurosuit - Mecha controlled by a human pilot.
  • Anthropomorphic Vehicle Control (AVC): A technology by which the person driving/piloting a vehicle feels as though they have become the vehicle.
  • Hyvid ( / Hypervid ): Modern video systems. Replace monitors and TVs. Capable of taking whatever video source comes in. Can also be used as a public terminal or workstation.
  • Fatpan: A wide-body cargo aircraft intended to deliver cargo but can also be used for offensive drops of DEMONs and other mobile weaponry.
