I don't know how I lucked into so many great books this year (Gone Away World, The Third Door). But, A Trip to the Stars is a new favorite. I saw this recommended on Amazon's Omnivoracious blog, but I hesitated because the recommendation was so... fulsome I guess. One of those if I could have...

This one I recommend, what a good story and it really starts off with a bang. But I personally think it needs some editing, sorry. Whats up with the charactor names Dolores, Della, Denise, Deseriee, Dahlia ? Who, what ? It got kind of confusing. Then theres a chapter on vampire hunting that does absolutly nothing for the story.

My initial impression was that this book would be great, and it ended up being just o.k. The author gets a bit self-indulgent with celestial or cosmic "happenings" and the book is just plain long. That being said, I kept at it because I did care about the characters and wanted to know how things turned out.

I don't know how I lucked into so many great books this year (Gone Away World, The Third Door). But, A Trip to the Stars is a new favorite. I saw this recommended on Amazon's Omnivoracious blog, but I hesitated because the recommendation was so... fulsome I guess. One of those if I could have only one book on a desert island comments. It sounded interesting and I read and enjoyed Christopher's The Bestiary last year some time, so I gave it a try. Wow: an intricate plot that steers clear of being too clever, a lot of flawed characters that you identify with, and enough realistic weirdness to keep you off balance.
Read this if you like Sean Stewart, Tim Powers, synchronicity, or happy endings.

I really loved this book. I got invested in all of the characters. It had a dreamy quality that was whimsical and elegant.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. The story is brilliantly conceived and executed with many characters I cared for deeply. The intertwined stories of the characters remdinded me of many of the gothic novels I read in school, but with so much less of the overt and painful drama. Even though the conclusion of the book is stated in the opening chapter, the story is only hightened by it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would rate it as one of the best I read in 2007. I even recommended it to others, and looked up facts on the internet about certain subjects contained in the story because it had me so fascinated! I liked the way the story unfolded, and how it was all interconnected, and the naming convention within the book after celestial objects.

Very unique. I recommended this to several people and they all loved it. Then they all asked me to recommend something else like it . . . which I couldn't do. Very singular. Another gem of brain candy.

I love this book unabashedly and want everyone I know to read it. I love the twists and turns and the characters. It made it hard to read something else; the language was so rich and I learned a lot about all kinds of subjects.

Like nothing you've ever read. Very lyrical without being over the top in it's descriptions. It's definitely a journey like no other book I've read. Takes a strange turn or two, but it works for this book.
