  • Himbradda: A crippled mutant of The Horde who attempts to kill The Old Man. He carries a parking meter club and is a violent sociopath.
  • Big Pedro: A friend of the old man. He teaches The Old Man how to survive and salvage in the Sonoran Desert
  • The Old Man: Our protagonist; a salvager whose people have come to believe he is "curst" and useless. He sets off on a quest to find good salvage and win himself back into his people's good graces. Often salvages with his granddaughter, and is a devotee of "The Old Man and the Sea".
  • Motel Man or Mirrored Sunglasses: Owner of the Dreamtime Hotel and wearer of mirrored sunglasses. He offers The Old Man his hospitality, and seems to be blind.
  • The Wolf: An old alpha wolf and leader of a roving pack.
