Didn’t Like It“This book agrees with advice received in several other books on writing, so while not filled with profound advice in itself, it is nice to know that many industry insiders agree on major aspects of writing. “Words and writing, thoughts and ideas what a cauldron of magic is stirred up by the writings of mankind. This book explains how publishers and agents use any little excuse to reject a manuscript, but it also helps us become aware of ways to improve our writing. Whether or not we are ever published we have more opportunities to express our ideas than at anytime in history. Being capable of expressing them clearly and in a creative and entertaining way is its own reward, and will go a long way to helping us find a publisher that just might give us a chance. Write on!”

The book itself is written like a novel in a way, making it much more enjoyable. Now that I have read it and applied the author's advice to my own books, I feel much better about my books and I am hesitating on wether actually sending them to an editor or not, because I feel like this book has helped me do all the editing I possibly can! I recommend this book to anyone who has or wants to write a book, because the advice the author gives can apply to absolutely everyone from the best writer to the worse one. Seriously.”

It is also always good to get a different writer's perspective on these aspect, for they inevitably add some new facet or subtle shift in how to look at your work. However, the examples provided in every chapter are so obvious and extreme as to be worthless for instruction. Writers who make such ghastly mistakes probably aren't reading about writing to begin with, and those who would be reading this book wouldn't be making such ghastly mistakes. Writers who posses some skills and seek to continue developing require more subtlety. Otherwise, maybe I know what I'm doing well enough already or it's all a crap shoot anyway!”
