“This Pulitzer Prize winning book was first published in 1998, so I may be the last person on earth to read it. Author Ron Suskind spent about 2.5 years of his life following brainiac inner-city student Cedric Jennings though his last years of high school and improbable first year at Brown University. He writes not as a narrator, but instead from inside the heads of several of the dozen or so strong personalities we meet in this book. Cedric's situation is to say the least eye-opening. The fact that he succeeds is miraculous. If you would like to truly live in the shoes of someone trying to escape the inner city, with a little help, but not much, this is a fascinating read.”
