- Ginesse Braxton: An impetuous young woman from a large family of Egyptian archeologists. At a young age she was sent to England for finishing school, in part to polish her manners and in part to keep her from harm's way because she is so prone to accidents.
- Mildred Whimpelhall: Fiancee to Colonel Lord Hilliard Pomfrey. A proper young lady with a propensity for sea sickness and very little appetite for adventure.
- James Owen: An American cowboy who works in trading Egyptian artifacts.
- Haji Elkamal: The Egyptian man who was raised to be Ginesse's older brother, although he is a "native." He abandoned the family when he was a young man and also works with the dealing of Egyptian artifacts.
