Narrated by Terry Bregy. Any kid reading this will never forget how to respond to a tsunami threat. They'll also learn about how earthquakes and tsunamis are tied together, and the destructive power of a tsunami. As in her other kid thrillers, Kehret has crafted a fast-paced story that will appeal to avid and reluctant readers alike. I wasn't sure about narrator Bregy who started out sounding way too old to voice 13-year-old Kyle. But I ended up being drawn into the story and probably due in part to Bregy's skill. He did do an amusing job portraying practical, billionaire-in-training BeeBee.

I really like this book because it isn’t hard to read and it about something that can actually happen in real life. Its not that long a book to red but if you like books that kind of keep you on edge then this is a book I would recommend this book if you are into real live situation stories. I would have to say that my favorite character was BeeBee because she acted like such an adult and I thought that it was funny that the younger sister was the one that was put in charge when their parents went out for dinner. Just thinking of what could have happened if they were on a ship and the tsunami happened when they were on the water. That could have either ended really badly or no one got hurt and they didn’t even know it happened until they got back I have finished this book, it is about this 13 year old boy named Kyle who went on a vacation with his family to the Oregon coast. There was one night when Kyle's parents went to dinner with the captain of a crew ship and something really bad happened while they were gone. An earthquake had hit and the hotel that they were staying caught fire. There was a sign telling them to get to the highest ground that they can because once there is an earthquake, a tsunami comes right after. They find away to stay alive throughout the terror of what has happened. Some parts of the book I honestly couldn’t be bothered to read because there wasn’t much going on and nothing was happening

Kyle (thirteen) and his little sister, BeeBee are vacationing on the coast of Oregon with their parents. Shortly after the parents go out to dinner, leaving Kyle in charge, a tsunami hits. Kyle must make quick decisions in order to save BeeBee and himself from the devastation of the storm. Along the way, he must make decisions about where to go and who to help, leaving readers on the edge of their seats in this suspenseful, survival story.

Teaching possibilities: study tsunamis/weather (how they are formed, where they strike, etc.), define responsibility and evaluate how responsible his/her behavior was, use referencing skills to determine accuracy of tsunami information, science – weather study, geography/mapping where these storms can occur, current events – connections to story,
Themes: tsunamis, forces of nature, survival, choices, responsibility, decision making
