The second of Palahniuk's horror novels (between Lullaby and Haunted), Diary is a story within a story as only Chuck Palahniuk can tell it. It is also one of the more linear of his books, making it a good starting point if you are new to this cultish author.
I maintain it is near impossible...

Written in a unique style. I liked the art references. A bit over dramatic at times, but that's Palahniuk.

Standard Chuck for Chuck fans. Not great, but it will give you your Chuck fix.

This story was really bizarre and told in a very unique manner that although was sometimes confusing, proved to be very interesting and effective. It was written in a diary-like style in which each mini-story (chapter) was dated and described it an emotional and hands-on way. Sometimes the author/narrator used a second-person way of diction that brought the reader into a more personal manner and self-inflicting way that brought the reader into the story that effected me much more than the usual story. I really liked this story because it told of how society could affect people in a very conflicting and scary manner, which is similar to Palahniuk's other story of 'Fight Club' that has similar themes. I thought Palahniuk's presentation of these themes were unique and interesting and think it would be good for anyone who is interested in such themes.

I was a struggling art student when this book came out. It may have saved my life.

It was a little hard to follow because it didn't flow.It took me a while to finish it. But other than that I loved it! All the twists turns awkward phrases, the repetitious writing (EX: Counting 1, counting 2, counting 3...), or Dooley, Donner, and Dunne, Attorneys-at-law, what color is your fungus?) made it a good read. The style was a There are these italicized paragraphs in it that speed you forward. I didn't catch why they were there until further in the book. It's a flash to the future. One that I was highly amused by.

It's dark, it's full of angst, and in true palahniuk fashion super crazy and strange. It's not his best work, but I still highly enjoyed it.
