A short story. In the wake of the Great War, a soldier and his bride turn a wasteland into a home. A tale of hope and sorrow; of loss and enduring love.
Lily: The name of the baby that was born too soon to the Barkers and did not survive.
Tom Barker: A young soldier, back from WWI whose dream was to marry his sweetheart, own a farm, raise cattle and a family on a beautiful piece of property in New Zealand
Aunt Ella: Owned a draper's and milliner's shop, took the heroine in as if she were her aunt.
Unnamed heroine: A woman in her late twenties who finds the love of her life, wishes for a child.
The air seems softer at this time of day, turned golden by the last sunlight.
