This book should added to an arsenal of books given to young Black males in particular. Mr. Harper writes well and intelligently. He is quite revealing about his personal life and decisions he's made on his way to being an actor. He is Harvard-educated and quite smart, serious about his craft, an activist just an all around good man.
One issue he didn't tackle was his height. I met him and he is quite short. I am sure he may have been teased about being sort or advised not to pursue...

    I have been leafing through this book at my local book store, for a while. It looked good enough to buy... and then - I did even find a LN copy on the bargain shelf.
    If this is as good as I think it is (and I will be able to tall after I'm done reading it...) It might be a good book to recommend to a young (black or other ethnicity) teenager/man "in trouble." I have a friend whose 18 year old son got into the wrong crowd and ended up in juvie... I've been thinking about sending him "The Envy of the World" by Ellis Cose. Perhaps I should also add Harpers?!
